UK Frontier Worker permit

A UK Frontier Worker permit is a permit that allows citizens of the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland who are employed or self-employed in the UK but live elsewhere to continue working in the UK after the end of the Brexit transition period.

To be eligible for a UK Frontier Worker permit, you must be a citizen of the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland, have worked in the UK before 31 December 2020, and live outside of the UK. You must also have started working in the UK before 1 January 2021, or have retained your worker status.

A UK Frontier Worker permit is valid for five years, after which it can be renewed.

If you are a citizen of the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland and were employed or self-employed in the UK before 31 December 2020, you do not need a UK Frontier Worker permit to continue working in the UK until 30 June 2021. After that date, you will need a UK Frontier Worker permit to continue working in the UK.

The processing time for a UK Frontier Worker permit application is up to 28 days. However, this may take longer if more information is needed or if there are any issues with the application.
